Richard and Valerie Green established their sculpture studio in 1977. They both have very strong links with the Police Service. Richard is an ex police officer and Valerie's family has been in the Police Service since the reign of Edward VII. Her grandfather was a Chief Inspector in the Metropolitan Police and her father (now 88 years) was a detective with the then Reading Borough Police.
Their Police background meant their work naturally inclined towards police uniforms, with their personal knowledge of wearing them and their contacts, built up over many years with officers who have seen many changes.
They aim to get the details absolutely correct. They started producing their work in natural black slate, but over the years have progressed to using Iron and Bronze as well.
These sculptures can be personalised "off the shelf" by the addition of the shoulder number, force crest and engraved plaques, for quick delivery.
They also make a full range of bespoke hand painted sculptures, working from photographs of the recipient. Whichever sculpture you choose you can be sure it has been given great care and attention.
Over the years there have been times when they have been pressed to expand their business but have restricted their size to a staff of four. By keeping very small they felt able to offer a service that would make each piece that more special and enable them to respond quickly when fast service was needed.
Richard and Valerie carry out each stage of the work, from research, to modelling the original, mould making, casting, assembling the finished product, engraving and painting. Each piece carries their signature. They also produce a range of prints and cards especially for the police service.
Their work is sold to individual officers and their families, Police Authorities, Crime Prevention Panels and many Sports and Social Clubs and training establishments. All over the world collectors prize the sculptures. |
